Wem Town Hall in Shropshire, England was burned to the ground in 1995. The event gained the attention of locals who gathered to watch the old building as it burned. One such spectator named Tony O’Rahilly, decided to take photos of the building as it burned. What was seen once developed has sent chills down the spines of many who have seen the picture above. The picture shows what looks like a little girl standing in the doorway of the burning building. Of course there were no children in the building as it was burned, so many have speculated as to who or what is seen in the photograph.
As it turns out, the fire was not the first to occur on this site. Upon further investigation it was learned that there was another fire during 1677 at the very same site. This was a fire that consumed many of the homes that existed in the area. A young girl by the name of Jane Churm was believed to be responsible for causing the fire that destroyed the homes. Could this be her spirit or ghost? Is young Jane still attached to the site of the devastating fire that she is believed to have caused?
O’Rahilly submitted the photo to the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena which, in turn, presented it for analysis to Dr. Vernon Harrison, a photographic expert and former president of the Royal Photographic Society. Harrison carefully examined both the print and the original negative, and concluded that it was genuine. “The negative is a straightforward piece of black-and-white work and shows no sign of having been tampered with,” Harrison said. -paranormalabout.com
The town of Wem has embraced their ghost and has even put up a plaque to mark the spot of their famous Ghost Girl. But is it real? Although O’Rahilly has since passed away, the ghost picture has continued to be debated. That is until one person found very strong evidence that the photo could be a fake.
A postcard has surfaced that was made in 1922 that has a young girl in the image. The girl has a striking resemblance to the Wem Ghost Girl that has been so popular for so many years. As a matter of fact..She looks identical. Although the picture was analyzed by experts many years ago, many are still saying that the picture is a fake and that the postcard is the proof. What do you think? Is the mystery of the Wem Ghost solved? You be the judge.
