The Mysterious Pyramids

The Great Pyramid of Giza has captivated the minds of people for centuries. The purpose and method of construction still remain a mystery, thousands of years after the first stone was put into place. There are many theories surrounding the pyramids, as well as many stories and legends.

The construction on the great pyramid is believed to have stopped around 2560 B.C. If given twenty years, it would have required over 867 stones to be placed per day. This is an amazing feat considering the immense weight of each stone and the lack of tools and technology at the time. It is also important to point out that the great pyramid was just one of a few amazing pyramids being built at the same time. In addition, the stones were laid with such precision, that even after thousands of years of aging and wear, there is still only about 1/50 of an inch in the stone joints on average. The great pyramid was built with amazing precision all around.

Most people believe that the base of the Great Pyramid is a perfect square. However, aerial photos taken in 1949 suggest otherwise. These photographs added to the mystery of the great pyramids by revealing that it wasn’t a square at all, but a four pointed star.  A perfectly designed four pointed star, creating an eight sided pyramid. This design can only be seen from the air and is not noticeable at all from the ground. This discovery adds to the theories that the pyramid was built for and with help of intelligent beings that could see this design from the air.

As you may have already read on our ancient astronauts page, many people theorize that there could have been an encounter with extraterrestrial life during the time of the pyramids, and there seems to be some evidence to lend credence to this. It is also interesting to note that the Great Pyramid of Giza is positioned at the exact center of all landmass on the planet earth. Is this a coincidence?

Most people believe that the great pyramid was built as a tomb for the pharaoh Khufu, and Khufu’s vizier, Hemon, or Hemiunu, is credited with being the architect. However, there seems to be a lack of evidence to support this and many say that this widely accepted theory is the most outlandish of them all. There have never been any mummies found within a pyramid.

Many theories have developed regarding these ancient structures. Some have even claimed that the ancient egyptians used a form of electricity and that the pyramids served as a type of giant battery. Whatever their purpose, The Great pyramid along with the other pyramids of Egypt will probably always be a mystery to mankind. And as with other great and ancient structures, you can’t help but to wonder if the builders knew what a mystery it would become, or what they knew that we do not.
